The initial contact from IBM has finished his term at the reeducation

Hi Rob,

I went to do some further researching as advised over the phone.

I discussed this also with our CS4 team that usually assists with i
hosting i environments along with our INT team. I also went to
double-check with our SR Team SMEs and:

1. For the scenario that you described - it would be sufficient to have
just the host LPAR saved.
2. For you to be able to recover the host and the clients in a disaster
scenario - the host LPAR needs to be saved with the clients NWSDs varied
off.
3. So you can do the below to obtain a backup on the host which yo can use
to recover the host and its clients:

3.1 Power off the clients.
3.2 Edit if needed the control group attributes on the host to include -
"Guest partitions *BOTH or *VARYOFF (you would need to start them
back manually if using this value; also make sure to check the help text
below)". This attribute can only be changed using the BRMS GUI.
------
Manage guest partitions attribute

Specifies whether guest partitions are varied off or varied on. The vary
off action occurs after the subsystems have ended. The vary on action
occurs before the subsystems are started. The guest partitions are not
varied on if the system is in restricted state or if the control group
will IPL the system.
------

3.3 Save the control group.

... this is a backup that you can use to get back the host and its clients
in case of disaster...BUT it cannot be used to restore individual objects
on any client from it.

So I apologize for what I initially advised ... you can recover the
clients, BUT you just cannot use such backup for individual object/s
restore (which seems OK in your scenario given what you told me over the
phone)

Please don't hesitate to contact us in case of additional question or
clarification is needed on anything.
