(The endgame is to print directly to workstation printers in the shipping area, but the .pdf solution lets me do interim development work and provide good mockups.)

The point of the product is to "print to PDF" or convert existing
spooled files to PDF, so I'm not sure how applicable it is to your
immediate task. It's a useful product nonetheless.
