Ok, basic IBM i type question:

"I can do ... in IBM Navigator for i but I would like to do it in a
program. How do I do that?"

The first place I would look now a days is in IBM i Services at
http://ibm.co/1jO2GOX
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20i%20Technology%20Updates/page/DB2%20for%20i%20-%20Services

Nothing jumped out and kicked me in the teeth there so the second place I
would go is the Knowledge Center. Granted it is royally <expletive
deleted> right now so I had to use bits and pieces of three different
browsers (IE, Chrome and FF), jumping back and forth between them all, but
eventually mananged to get to where I wanted. The place I would look in
the Knowledge Center is
IBM i
IBM i 7.3
Programming
Application programming interfaces
APIs by category
Security APIs
Enterprise Identity Mapping APIs

IBM is really big into having you look at their flaming logos so quite
often they will vandalize stuff to get you to start out at the beginning.
