Jim,
<snip>
I directly download then to the IBMi, The IBMi then saves the .bin files
to a save file and pushes
them automatically to all the IBMi partitions that need the fixes.
</snip>
Well I didn't use save files but I ftp'd them straight from ifs from one
lpar to the next.

I fought the NFS approach for WAY too long. I was in my comfort zone.
What I had worked and I didn't have to learn something new and deal with
setup issues that the people who did the NFS stuff before me gloss over
because they can do it in their sleep now. But it is something to
definitely consider.
- no disk eaten up by the other lpars storing the .bin files.
- no time used physically distributing the bin files to all the lpars.
- after the initial setup is done it is much easier for each of the lpars.
You no longer even have an image catalog, save files, etc on them. You
simply do
INSPTF LICPGM((*ALL)) DEV(OPTNET01) INSTYP(*DLYALL)
where OPTNET01 is pointing to the lpar hosting the one and only image
catalog. It's really that easy.
