What do you mean by "flat file"? If you're talking about a PF that's
created using plain old CRTPF with no DDS (which is what you described
in your first post), you may be surprised to find out that it is still
externally described.
Judging by your responses (not just to me), it sounds like you do a
fair amount of reading but not a lot of trying. IBM's docs are pretty
good, but it doesn't mean they're infallible; and even when they are
correct, they can be misinterpreted.
