The auto reclaim feature took away the biggest problem with data queue size, but you can still fill up a data queue (e.g. leaving orphan records in a keyed queue).

Data queues are limited by disk space, so the number of records they can hold are based on the length of the data queue. IIRC you can choose either 16MB or 2GB disk space.

Subject: Re: Are data queues reliable?

I have used DTAQs om a daily basis with some monitor programmes without any problems.

The problems that could occur are:

- a DTAQ could become damaged and thus not functional anymore.

- a DTAQ could hold up to a fixes number of entries (16 IIRC). With more entries added the DTAQ will grow in size and take up DASD. In the old days it was not easy to reclaim that disk space but only delete and recreate the DTAQ. This has been fixed with added paramenters or commands.

So, the problems with DTAQs belong to the past.
