How about creating a shell of the files, with one member and no data, either in a different library or with different names and then use that version as the source for the CRTDUPOBJ. If you create additional LF's on the multi-member file that might be required for the new process you'll need to remember to add those to your shell version.

We have things set up that as developers we can't use CRTFUPOBJ - but we can use CPYF for the PFs - then we use CRTLF to get the LFs.
