On our Mimix machines:
Production primary (GDIHQ1) and Production Mimix (GDIHQ2)
Development primary (GDISYS1) and Development Mimix (GDISYS2)

We have the following:
Three IP addresses
- One for systems type use (not developers but admin only). Stuff like
querying how the disk space is on the other system.
- One which is live or dead based on whether that lpar is 'active' or it's
Mimix partner is active.
- One on a different subnet used strictly by Mimix.
All on the same physical line.

GDIHQ1 has
10.17.6.32
10.17.6.33
10.17.252.190
127.0.0.1

GDIHQ2 has
10.10.6.32
10.10.6.33
10.10.252.192
127.0.0.1

Since GDIHQ1 is playing GDIHQ now it will have 10.17.6.33 active while
GDIHQ2 will have 10.10.6.33 as inactive. The DNS will point GDIHQ to
10.17.6.33.
When we do a switch GDIHQ1 will have 10.17.6.33 go inactive, GDIHQ2 will
have 10.10.6.33 go active and the DNS will be changed to point GDIHQ to
10.10.6.33.

All users connect to GDIHQ. Periodically I will check the IP address for
GDIHQ1 for use. If I see any by someone other than me a discussion is
involved and they are enlightened as to the error of their ways.
We did have a software vendor who was DNS phobic and would talk someone
through CFGTCP option 1 and have them record the IP address shown.

Currently I do have a few connections. The ports that are of concern are
all LPD. But I am leaning towards saying that's all right. For example,
I may want to print off a BRMS report and will need to start a printer
writer even on a machine that's 'dormant'.
