I seem to remember this as a long term problem, even on the deprecated
stuff. We ended up using techniques from Scott Klement to feed from a
stream file into DB2. The biggest reason was granularity. We could run
the batch feed and it would feed what it could and put the rest on an
exception report. Prior to that finding the offensive column was a
tedious task. As a side benefit it also ran faster (the overhead on stuff
like CPYFRMIMPF is tremendous). Also, it didn't abend upon each upgrade
of the OS like CPYFRMIMPF was prone to do.
