When working with a list api I much prefer QUSPTRUS over QUSRTVUS.
You just have to get over some initial phobia about working with pointers.

A good comparison is this (for RPG programmers)
Which is easier?
z = x + y;
or
z = QAddTwoNumbers(x, y, ErrorCodeDS);

because once you do one call to QUSPTRUS your math is like the z = x + y.
otherwise you do a lot of calls to QUSRTVUS.

And, which do you think would perform better?
z = x + y;
or
z = QAddTwoNumbers(x, y, ErrorCodeDS);
