I know the SEP, but messing with it seems a bit tricky (without clearly knowing the full background).

And while I agree that there are maybe other solutions for my problem, I'd rather keep this a technical discussion to see if the idea would be possible at all and what it involves (rather than a philosophical one about good or bad and other solutions).

that means, you should not be messing with it.



Your particular business problem has been solved hundreds of times the
exact way you have: Provide the help desk with a menu which implements
the subset of commands they need to do their jobs. If they wander off
the reservation, the system will prohibit them from causing damage via
object security. All they need to do to resume work is to go back to
their menu.
