It's okay. I forgive you. :-)

I know how to back stuff out. I've been doing it since the S/38 days, and I
had a Silverlake box in my office beginning in the 4th quarter of 1987.

The problem is that this guy (we call him Professor Irwin Corey because he's
the world's foremost authority) would never dream of kicking the users off
the system long enough to do a full save. He has to schedule conference
calls to discuss replacing disk drives even on non-production machines.

I'm gonna listen in on his call today to hear the snickers from the IBM
folks.

Sorry Paul, could have sworn it was you who kept saying "if it ain't
broke, don't fix it". Didn't think you were paraphrasing someone else.

How to back out a cume: Perform a full system save PRIOR to loading PTF's
on. Even those set for delayed apply. Then you can always following the
instructions commonly used to put on stuff like V5R4M5 or 6.1.1 (or GA
code over top of beta code):
"Replacing Licensed Internal Code and i5/OS of the same version and
release"
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ssw_i5_54/rzahc/upgradesamever
sion.htm
but use your save media.

For other releases:
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ssw_ibm_i_61/rzahc/upgradesame
version.htm
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ssw_ibm_i_71/rzahc/upgradesame
version.htm

http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ssw_ibm_i_72/rzahc/upgradesame
version.htm
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/ssw_ibm_i_73/rzahc/upgradesame
version.htm

Of course, if you're also concerned about LPP's other than lic and OS
there are more steps than that. (like backing out the cume stuff from
compilers and whatnot for example).

I have done some extensive
SAVLICPGM to save file
DLTLICPGM
test
RSTLICPGM from save file

When I was testing how some stuff would act without Java 6.
