It will format it correctly when you do INZOPT. OTTOMH I don't recall the file system. It IS readable by PC servers and desktops though so you can actually just copy files onto it and then copy them onto your i. It shows up under QOPT on IBM i.

Cool. What filesystem needs to be on the drive (if any)? FAT? FAT32?

The other option is to use an RDX drive which is natively supported
(as an optical drive), connects to the USB port, and is bootable in
case you need to reload the server. The RDX drive was supported for
just this situation where a tape drive is very expensive for the
needed capacity.

Never heard of an RDX drive. I'll have to google that one. Thanks!
