Paul,

Read the post again.

Some trading partner sent him instructions which say something like this:
We have this file you need to send us (or we'll send you)
We have COBOL specs for the layout. They are
...
...
...

Now he needs to convert those COBOL copy specs into either DDS or DDL so
that he create the file.

So, no, since the file does not yet exist on IBM i he cannot go into IBM
Navigator for i and generate the DDL.
