I like the free part (if you have MS SQL) and I like the no-programming part. I'm not too keen on needed to add another layer that is just doing a pass-through translation of OData to ODBC. In my experience adding layers will always lead to confusion or added complexity to debugging when things go wrong in the future.

Yes you can. But with SSRS you get ODATA for free, no programming required. Just report creation (thus all you have to write are SQL queries).

Just as an alternative, if you have Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services you can expose any of your report data (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, etc) as OData feeds. Very powerful stuff.

https://www.progress.com/connectors/ibm-db2 that would let a remote application retrieve data over OData protocol but does anyone know if IBM provides this option for accessing data like IBM provides an ODBC driver for iSeries DB2?
