DB2 for IBM i does support a curious hybrid.

A lot of DDS logical files are simply a selection of all columns in the
physical table, index it, and only select "active records". Such as the
following:

RCOL01 over the RCO table
R IPR100CO PFILE(RCO )
...
K CMPNY

S CRSTS COMP(EQ 'A')

So, in DDL, you can replace this with:
CREATE INDEX RCOL01
ON RCO (CMPNY)
WHERE CRSTS='A'
RCDFMT IPR100CO

This is only if RCOL01 selects all columns.
In our case, it doesn't. Which is kind of nice since I can add columns to
RCO (like for Temporal Table support) and not blow up any of my vendor's
code (tested and verified).
