DNS is preferred of course but a host table can do the same thing.....

Hi Rob,

Again, my knowledge is limited but from what I understand, you should have a
DNS for host name lookups.
The other way is to use the Host Table. CFGTCP option 10. Work with TCP/IP
host table entries. But the preferred way is to use DNS.

If you have a DNS or two in your network, find out the IP addresses and
enter them in using CHGTCPDMN.
It can't hurt to try.

Hi Glenn

on V5R1, I also can see the INTNETADR and it shows *NONE. This seems
to be for DNS and I don't think that this is relevant for my problem.

Many thanks

Hi Rob,

I wasn't referring to the Host and Domain names.
I'm on 7.1 and when I page down, the second screen shows three
Domain
name
server entries. The parameter name is INTNETADR.
I'm not sure what 5.1 shows.

The domain name server is what translates a host name to an IP address.

Many thanks. The CHGTCPDMN command on the V5R1 server shows the
local
host
name and domian name and I don't think that that should be changed.
When
I
said 'myhostname' above, perhaps I should have put 'myremotesvr'

I wish I knew more in this area but here goes ...

The Change TCP/IP Domain (CHGTCPDMN) shows the IP address of
your
domain
name server.
Is this still correct?
If it is correct and you can reach the domain name server, does
the
domain
name server know about 'myhostname'?

I recently had to change a router and this has caused a
variety of problems.

I changed the RDB entries on a V5R1 server to reflect a new
internal
IP
address for a V5R2 server on the same network, but when I
execute
the
command STRTCPFTP on the V5R1 server and enter the RDB name
for the
V5R2
server, I get

TCP101A - cannot find 'myhostname'.

Yet I can ping the internal address stored in the RDB
definition
for
the
V5R2 server without problem, both from Windows and using the
ping
command
on the V5R1 machine.

I wonder (ignorantly!) if the problem is with the router
configuration
(which I didn't set up).

All help gratefully received.

many thanks
