Roberto:
I have several customers running PowerHA very successfully. A successful
installation and PowerHA environment does require proper sizing of the
hardware (processor and memory for PowerHA) and sufficient DASD resources,
and most of all bandwidth between the pair of replicated systems. PowerHA
does use more resources (particularly bandwidth) than some of the other
products, but it's a different type of replication too. It does not rely on
journaling or other similar technology it is storage based replication.
Most of my customers run internal storage for PowerHA but I have a couple
that run PowerHA on the SAN. That's a different animal too since if you do
it correctly you can add flash copy and other technologies into the mix to
provide for seamless backup and such. While a bit more costly, I prefer the
SAN method over internal storage.
Implementation is a real "it depends" topic. Is the customer planning on
having the replicated partitions hosted by IBM i? Are they going to change
the base system to use iASP in the applications? There are too many
variables to give you any clue about installation costs. It's going to
depend entirely on that specific customer and that situation.

Subject: PowerHA, questions, experiences and who?
All,
So far all i've heard about PowerHA here in Argentina hasn't been promising,
lots of problems and delays, incorrect sizings, etc.
But here on this list i've heard good things and all i've read about PowerHA
has led me to believe it should work fine.
I'd like to ask how many of you are running PowerHA and how many of those
are running on external storage.
I've also been tasked with asking for consulting quotes on complete PowerHA
implementations, so you might email me for more details if a
vendor/consultant is reading this.
Best Regards,
Roberto
