Does any body have any more current information?
My understanding is that (1) it's a one-way hash, making passwords
inherently irrecoverable by design, and (2) it's probably in some way
related to the "Password Substitution" procedure used for secured
sign-on via an unsecured channel, which involves using the password as a
key for encrypting the user profile name.
