I think at V7R2 the monitors have been moved to the *ADMIN server. I have
not looked to see if they've been PTFd back to V7R1 but I doubt it.

My guess is a job that periodically wakes up checks the queue with APIs and
does something is the best bet (outside of a commercial solution)

There are numerous third party products out there right now. We are
interested in replacing Message Plus (because it's been EOL'd). This is
what we're using now. They're pushing a replacement product from Robot.
In general I am wary of their products as generic beer on a champagne budget
but I'll take a look at it.
I will never buy another LXI product again so I won't look at theirs.

Using what comes with the OS:

WRKWCH is a possibility. But that would be more for monitoring a message
queue. Like QSYSOPR for a job stuck in MSGW. (A big reason why many job
queues start stacking up!)

You could roll your own with this

If you're just getting started with API's you may want to look at

IDK if COMMON has such a session this time. A casual glance led me to
believe not.

IBM Navigator for i has some monitors. Like for disk arm utilization and
whatnot but nothing elementary for job queues getting stacked up or anything
like that.
IBM Navigator for i does have a message queue monitor. You could set up a
monitor for a message in qsysopr and send an email to yourself.

HI is there a way to get an alert if a job queue has a bunch of jobs
waiting?
In our system this could indicate an issue.
