Stop using "where" to join files. Use JOIN instead.

What you are looking for is an "outer" join.
If you have to have a header record, it is a "left outer join"

select H.field1, d.rdItmVlu
from HeaderFile H left outer join DetailFile D
on H.Key1 = D.Key1
where D.RcdType in('ABC', 'XYZ')

Testing for IFNULL or COLAESCE of rdItmVlu<>' ' seems like extra work
since RcdType would also be null and therefore not IN('ABC, 'XYZ'). But
if that floats your boat you could do
select H.field1, d.rdItmVlu
from HeaderFile H left outer join DetailFile D
on H.Key1 = D.Key1
where D.RcdType in('ABC', 'XYZ')
and D.rdItmVlu is not null
