Why do you find that strange? Different languages have different
feature sets. The 'core' RPG features are heavily geared toward record
I/O. The 'RPG way' of extending its core functionality is to call an
API. My first exposure to this concept was with EXIT, RLABL, and
SPECIAL files on System/3 RPG II in say 1978 or 79.
