If you want the unix box to execute the extract on a schedule before the ftp
connects, so the files are ready to pick up, you need to set up a CRON
schedule (an ancient but simple scheduler). The ftp from I executing
commands is fine but often secured to not allow.

I'm spending more and more time on a Power unix box (websphere and DB2)
lately.. programming, with Power i still in the loop, and we use Cron for
daily schedules.

in your FTP session to see what subcommands are available on the Unix box.

You might also be able to have a process on the Unix box waiting for a

file to arrive - then do a PUT of that marker file when you want something
to happen - I think I did something like that 20 years ago, long deep memory
hole there!
