Now, I do realize that it may be frustrating to some because people are
saying exciting stuff is coming but when you ask them what they won't give
you any detail. Sorry. That's just the way it's going to be. These

to secrecy.

Let me first say that I appreciated your well written post, including
the parts that I've snipped.

But what I think what a lot of folks are wondering is just: Why is it
news that 7.3 is the release that comes after 7.2?

It would be news if IBM were skipping a major version number and
releasing 9.1 next, like Microsoft recently did with Windows. To some
extent, it would even be news if the next release were 8.1, because
I'll bet most folks are like me and not expecting a new major version
for a while yet.

So 7.3 is the natural, expected progression here. The headline *reads* like this

The name of our next release will be 7.3!

which seems a little silly. Do they think we don't know how to count?
To me, the headline should have emphasized the timing more than the
name. I think if you actually read everything that's been written,
that will come across as the intent, but I still found the headline
too clever or too cheeky (or too... something) for its own good. I
don't see what's wrong with

We will be releasing 7.3 soon!

which would have conveyed the same thing but less weirdly.
