Well, V5R4 is definitely a kick in the groin. On a newer system you can
skip the API and list members by
SELECT SYSTEM_TABLE_SCHEMA, SYSTEM_TABLE_NAME, SYSTEM_TABLE_MEMBER
FROM qsys2.syspartitionstat
WHERE system_table_schema...
IDK how far that goes back. I've not seen a V5R4 system in a long time.
