I manage my DNS on the *ADMIN server all the time, although I have to admit
recently I just updated the conf file directly since I was making a network
IP address scheme change and it was just easier that way.

I suspect there is a fault in the server. Before calling IBM you might
consider just rebuilding the *ADMIN server You can find the instructions
here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1019747

I know that's not the stated problem but that will rebuild the server from
factory. You'll also want the HTTP group over the top of it as well.
Remember the HTTP group also includes the Java group.

With the recent announcements I think we are down to two things, both of
which are being worked on feverishly by our friends in Rochester. With

SQL scripting now being supported 90% of what everyone uses is either in
the Access Client or in the *ADMIN server. The two (maybe three) items

am aware of are high on the list of items to complete.

The older client will still connect for those things the client
supports.
If the new OS or client supports additional function, clearly they won't
be there.

That said, the new client is Faster, Thinner, Easier to update/maintain,
why not just dump the old iSeries Access client for the new ACS client?
