I've yet to use HMC v8, but on v7 you can specify an FTP server, that's
what i use.

Keep seeing stuff like "Default hard drive directory". I picture someone

default hard drive directory is ...".

Subject: Power 8 firmware upgrade - HSCF0050
Sent by: "MIDRANGE-L" <midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

Trying to upgrade Power 8 firmware.
My goal is to get it all downloaded now and then upgrade at a more
convenient time as this is a disruptive upgrade.

So I went to fix central. Picked the appropriate firmware and it brought
down a list of files:
01SV830_068_048.dd.xml
01SV830_068_048.html
01SV830_068_048.pd.sdd
01SV830_068_048.readme.txt
01SV830_068_048.rpm
01SV830_068_048.tar.gz
01SV830_068_048.xml
01SV830068_special_instructs.xml.special.note.xml

I fully understand that, based on my situation, that this is "disruptive".

I am trying to figure out how to get this from my PC to my HMC so that I
can select:
Upgrade Licensed Internal Code to a new release
Specify LIC Repository - RACK3, Specify the location of the LIC repository
and pick "Hard drive" and not end up with:
HSCF0050 - The repository does not contain any applicable upgrade updates.

I've read all these readme's, special instructions, and even followed the
link to

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/8286-42A/p8ha1/smupgradelic.htm?lang=en-us

The FAQ link there was rather dated.
