We have some in-house applications that can be used to process payments by credit card. The app simply has a hidden field on the screen and a Cherry keyboard with a built in mag stripe card reader and when the user swipes the card on the keyboard the encoded data on the card is sent as keystrokes to the hidden field and so the RPG application can then process the charge. We recently got a new Cherry keyboard with a chip-and-pin smartcard reader thinking it would work the same way but it does not. Inserting the smart card into the reader does not send keyboard strokes. We contacted Cherry and was told that the PC needs to be running software that is specifically designed to read data from a smartcard reader so our current method of processing credit cards is not going to work. Has anyone else attempted to do this and find a solution that would get data from a smartcard into a 5250 screen put up by an RPG application?

Thanks
Mike Cunningham
