Thanks all,

I ended up going with a gui called SQLWorkbenchJ that can script files
which was recommended to me off list. I do want to try GENERATE_SQL and the
editors Rob mentioned. Using source members is something I need to master.
I normally just use the IFS to copy and paste php files that I run from
PASE.

Justin,

Once you have it in a source file member you can use RUNSQLSTM on that
source member to actually execute the sql.
Editors you can use to modify the source include:
- RDP (Rational Developer for Power) Name may be slightly different. Full
fledged Eclipse based environment.
- STRSEU Green screen based command. Not a bad editor but it is
deprecated for RDP. Requires 57##WDS loaded on your IBM i. (## varies by
release)
- EDTF FILE(LIBRARY/FILE) MBR(MEMBER) Stone age but will get the job done
in a pinch if you don't have 57##WDS loaded. Comes with the OS.

1. QSQGNDDL is an API (Application Program Interface), i.e. a program that
has to be called with a CALL command.

If you are on release 7.2 you may intend to use the GENERATE_SQL
(
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/rzajq/rzajqprocg

ensql.htm?lang=de) Stored Procedure, which is also based on the QSQGNDDL
API, but can be alled from any SQL interface (with the SQL Call Command).

Betreff: Can't call QSQGNDDL on a V7R2M0 box.

Hello,

I would like the CREATE TABLE DDL for a PF on my clients V7R2M0 system. I
am
QSECOFR on this system. The internet tells me that QSQGNDDL is a wonderful
tool for doing that, and proceeds to tell me that DDL is the future and
DDS
is the past, which is great news for me because I'm a PHP programmer that
knows SQL, and not DDS, or RPG.

Unfortunately, this IBMi tells me "Command QSQGNDDL in library *LIBL not
found." This is not great news for me.

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/apis/qsqgnddl.htm

Indicates that this command still works in V7.2 (also it gave me stern
warnings about the maintenance window). It doesn't say what library it
would
be in, or else I'd attempt to edit my library list, which is something I
have not done in a decade, but understand in theory. What am I doing
wrong?

If there is an alternative methodology to "script" a PF to a CREATE TABLE
statement, such as through PASE, I'm all ears. I'm actually much more
comfortable at the PASE shell prompt than the green screen.

Thanks,

Justin
