All,
I am planning to use SQL Column triggers in a new project that I am
starting.
Thanks to the help I have received here, I have successfully created the
triggers and they work fine.
What I am concerned about is the possible effect on system performance.
Some of the files that I have set a trigger on are updated over 100M times
per day, but only occasionally do the updates cause the trigger to call my
program.
Since I have a When condition in the trigger, does it only fire when the
condition occurs or does it fire on any add/update that I have defined and
if the When condition is not true, does nothing or does the DB somehow know
only to call the trigger program when the condition is met?
Is there likely to be a performance hit due to these triggers?
If so, how do I tell what it is and how can I minimize it?

TIA,
