Well, I initially thought, why do we need this since it is just a bunch of XML files zipped up into a single xlsx? But the format is complex, and to support all that complexity, it would be much better to avoid reinventing the wheel. Guess I am just going to have to experiment.

The thing is, keeping up with POI releases doesn't
make any advance towards possible new enhancements.

I'm pretty sure that 3.6 is what Scott had "proven" to work.
I've been interested in tinkering with additional features but
haven't had the time.

Hearing that Scott abandoned POI for building spreadsheets makes me
wonder if he figured that there was an easier way or what.

I'll speak for Scott in case his response takes a while. His last
position, as I recall, was that he didn't intend to maintain the RPG
service program any longer. If I remember, he said he was going to
actually
abandon using the HSSF stuff to generate spreadsheets. However, the last
update he did, at 3.6, works with at least the 3.10 jars that we're
running
at.

Scott, have you had time to upgrade your POI interface to support any
version beyond 3.6? The last article I saw is getting a little dated, and
I
am trying to set something up at my current client. When I went to
download
POI I noticed it is now at version 3.12 (twelve), I suspect the other jars
are getting a bit behind since 2010 as well.
