Guess I should mention we have POWER5...

Look at it this way, rather than repeatedly seeing the same message over
and over, that you'd end up just skipping over without reading it. You
only get a message when something changes. Which usually means you'd want
to pay attention to it.

Thanks Charles. The non-positive response from the Power 7 is just a
little unnerving. I would prefer that on power-up the machine acknowledge
the existence of the UPS.

I don't really ever seeing it at IPL.

We've always had a UPS attached.

I really think it's only for a change condition. I tried to research

yesterday by looking for instructions on how to hook up to a UPS in the

people who sign my paychecks probably want me working on assigned tasks.

Any help on this? Shouldn't I see the CPI0962 message for a UPS
connected
each time we IPL?

We have a Power 7 running IBM I V7R1.

We have recently attached an IBM sanctioned UPS to the system.

Last week we powered down the system and attached the UPS and powered up
the
System and received the CPI0962 message during IPL.

All good.

Over this past weekend our building had a planned power outage. We
shutdown
the Power 7 and shutdown the UPS.

When the power to the building was restored we powered up the UPS and
then
the Power 7 was powered up.

The Power 7 came up find, however this time we did not get the CPI0962
message.

The question is: shouldn't we get the CPI0962 message every time the
system
ipl'd?
