If you're looking for an asynchronous trigger interface, you're probably
going to have to create some plumbing yourself. The IBM i trigger interface
is synchronous, which makes sense in most cases. As Charles indicated, the
called trigger needs to return error messages. Triggers may need to modify
record buffers before records are "persisted" to the DB, and so forth. IBM
i trigger programs run in the same process which evoke them.

I wrote plumbing to support asynchronous interfaces. The actual trigger
forwards the "event" to an out-of-process DB event handler, then optionally
waits for a response, or continues...
