Hahahaha :-)

Never thought of it that way before.

I like to think I was innovative back in the 90's when I thought of a page in a spool file as a database record when building the Report Splitter product. The product was written before SQL and re-written to embrace SQL in the early 2000's.

We've done all kinds of interesting spool file manipulation and extraction projects over the years for various purposes including full text indexing with WebDocs.

We might even be able to identify your real brother :-)

Searching spooled files for "data" is like trying to find your real brother
(in the flesh) in a family picture. :)

If it's a one time thing, you could use our SPLTOOL software to convert
them to txt (all at once) and search that way. But either way it won't be
pretty.

A spooled file is not meant to be "data". It is a snapshot of your data.

If possible, you'd be better off querying the actual data that was used to
create the spooled file if possible.

The answer is Yes, however a little more clarity on the business

subject: SQL Query of spool file data

Anyone know if there is a way to query spool file data ?
Recently I've seen posts by persons like Michael Sansoterra at Broadway
Systems
showing recently added support for SQL query of iSeries operational data.
We're a year or so behind on PTF's (sun is setting here), but my current
project could
benefit from something more flexible than WRKSPLF
