Well, I'm not wanting to query spool file contents for this project.
I do want to identify the existence of particular files within a range of date time, etc.
The project is for EDI 856 ASN and the goal is to validate a new custom app that is
to be used to improve warehouse pallet-build accuracy.
We may want to roll this out to warehouses in several western states so I'm putting
a little more into the test/verify step than is typical, hence my need to locate spool
files that have been created for pallets built for recent customer deliveries.

Now that is an interesting question.
What would you expect your input to be?
What results would you expect?
select JobName, JobNumber, JobUser, SpoolName, SpoolNumber, SpoolText From qsys2.RetrieveSpoolInfo( OutputQueue :
OutputQueueLib :
SpoolUser :
JobName :
...
)
where SpoolText contains "$2,097.65";
Not that it's near close enough, but the closest I can see is:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/rzajq/rzajqudfgetjobinfo.htm?lang=en-us
Think of how you could adapt API's from here:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/apis/print1b.htm?lang=en-us
into SQL.
Then it's just a matter of creating a view or UDTF that will do that for you.
Actually this list is being monitored by IBMers hungry to generate such SQL enhancements...
Helps if you go through the trouble of

Anyone know if there is a way to query spool file data ?
Recently I've seen posts by persons like Michael Sansoterra at Broadway
Systems
showing recently added support for SQL query of iSeries operational data.
We're a year or so behind on PTF's (sun is setting here), but my current
project could
benefit from something more flexible than WRKSPLF
