Hi Rob,
Thanks for the link. This particular system is not HMC managed, the first time I've ever done an FSP update not via the HMC. I was unsure about whether I could just download the MH* PTF (In this case MH01401) and use LOD/APYPTF as normal and then IPL. One of the Knowledge Base links I saw was talking about inserting a flash drive into the system and doing it that way (Not an option here, I'm in Chicago and the system is in Sydney).
Anyway, I think I'm good now, just waiting for the local people to organize a tape for a SAVSYS. Your link below about the code being written to the repository on the A and/or B side and then copied to T or P on IPL was very helpful, thank you!
Adam

This will tell you if your firmware is set to update via HMC or via your
partition. Sample:
Service partition . . . . . . . . . . . . . : No
Firmware update policy . . . . . . . . . . : *HMC
Server IPL source . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Temporary
Firmware product ID/release . . . . . . . . : 5733906 V1R2M0
On one of my systems:
Service partition . . . . . . . . . . . . . : No
Firmware update policy . . . . . . . . . . : *HMC
Server IPL source . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Temporary
Firmware product ID/release . . . . . . . . : 5733908 V1R1M0
---Server firmware----
Fix PTF
Copy pack ID
*ACTIVE SV810_101 MH01476
FW810.20
*TEMP SV810_101 MH01476
FW810.20
*PERM SV810_054 MH01392
FW810.00
Don't you think that 'temp' and 'perm' make more sense than "A" or "B"?
Are you set up to *HMC or not?
