Mike:

This is also fairly easy to do using Query/400 (WRKQRY) to create two queries: a DIFF query using "Unmatched records with primary file" (that looks for records without a match based on keys) and a SAME query using "Matched records" ... (that looks at matching records with the same keys, then compares all non-key fields, looking for other differences ...)

Or, use the CMPPFM command to compare the contents of one physical file member with another with the same record layout ... CMPPFM reads records in "arrival sequence" so you may need to copy the files to compare into "work" files (in QTEMP) and also sort the work files into the correct order, based on the desired keys, before comparing with CMPPFM.

Hope that helps,

Trying to identify
Records in file a not in file b
Records in file b not in file a
Records that match key but have any differences

This is what I'm trying

(select * from prodfiles/ufxd where ufact = ufact
except
select * from qtemp/ufxd )
union
(select * from qtemp/ufxd
except
select * from prodfiles/ufxd where ufact = ufact)

If this works as I think, I need to identify whether the results are in file a or file b

Not sure what to do

Thanks
Mike
