Roy,
We have been looking at this for some time now and are close to making a decision on how best to proceed. We have done a two 'proof-of-concepts' using free, built-in APIs as well as a couple of third-party software products. I would be happy to collaborate with you off-line.

We need to start looking at encrypting "data at rest" and the definition being used is basically "data on a disk" even if it's the operational database. All of our off-the-box backups are encrypted, but the system itself is not. Just wondering if anyone has started encrypting their ASPs and what kind of performance hit anyone has seen and whether or not a crypto coprocessor card was being used or deemed essential for performance.
