Hi Darryl,

I'm not sure I understand your situation exactly so here is a stab.

First, display the journal to an outfile using DSPJRN. If you know the
member name of the file, great. If not, you will have to specify *ALL for
the OBJ parameter. I forget the different values for OUTFILFMT since it's
been a while since I've had to do this. Specify the record length of the
db file in question for the ENTDTALEN parameter.

The outfile will have a lot of fields followed by one field that will hold
all your user data, a.k.a. entry specific data portion.
If you write an RPG program, you can map the user data portion to an
externally defined ds.
Another way I suppose is to copy the data using CPYF with FMTOPT(*NOCHK).
Before you can do that, you'll have to do it one of two ways:
1. Drop all the columns in the outfile that are before the entry specific
data portion.
2. CRTDUPOBJ (without the data) of the db in question somewhere and insert
one column in the front that has the same length as all the DSPJRN info
(without the entry specific data portion) together.

Hope this helps.

Yours truly,

I need to read the journal files to display who dunnit.

Our system uses members as work files and they are removed after the batch
is updated.

I need to be able to display those batches from the journal but because
the members were removed they are not directly accessible from the journals.

There is a work around to this but I do not remember how.

Can anyone assist?

Tia,

Darryl
