Guy's

read what Darryl wrote - his problem with source files was the statement
length
since his script has longer length that "normal" source length (92/112) and
he don't want to break it up.

SEU supports statements up to 240 char length, EDTF can edit a source file
that
has a char length of thousands, RDi I dont know ...

But the main issue here is if RUNSQLSTM on V5R4 supports source file input
in any
length.

Easy then, store the scripts into a source file and use runsqlstm on it.
See also: CRTQMQRY and STRQMQRY. The former "compiles" a source file
into a *QMQRY object and the latter executes. You do not need to have the
57##ST1 program to use these. I wrote an article about these long before
V5R4 even existed.

Apologies, I meant to add, the data updates data on the as/400. The output
is to new or existing tables on the system. Nothing is downloaded to the
PC's.

The user interface in iNavigator is more friendly than trying to use
source files.

I think you really need to add some information about what type of
output
you expect and where it will be used.

Sounds like you need a PC tool more than an i tool - something capable
of
connecting to the database and running SQL scripts, but I don;t know how
you expect to use the output so I can't really say.

Let me add some clarity.

I am using v5r4 and am using the iNavigator's "Run a sql script".

So all is native in iNav.

I would like to continue running the scripts from iNav.

I would like something like

Runsql script1
Runsql script2
Runsql script3

Thanks

I understand that you want to run these scripts on your PC. So I

Most others are suggesting running commands on the IBM i to run SQL.
They
might not understand what you are asking. But to put them into a
positive
light, running the SQL on the IBM i might perform better by doing all
the
summarizing on the big iron and just passing the results back to the
PC.
Failing that, and a continuation on attempting to run SQL scripts
directly
on your PC I know there is a way. We actually did this from DOS
before I
discovered the old freebie RUNSQL (which was supplanted by IBM coming
out
with their own a decade or so later). Now if I could only remember
how...
Got a lot of work to catch up...
Maybe the ODBC connectivity stuff?
Maybe putting the SQL into excel?
Maybe just running the file transfers and then accessing the
downloaded
data?

I have about 10 separate SQL scripts that I run from the PC command
line
using the iNavigator SQL interface.

What I need to do is something like call each script in a batch(BAT)
type
file.

Has anyone done this before?

I do not want to run these using a series of runsqlstm statements in a
CL
program. Using RUNSQLSTM needs me to convert the scripts into source
files

and the width of the source file requires me to break lines into
multiple
lines which gets very messay.
