The EJ0P is for Power8, and is the enhanced backplane with as you say and has a pair of high performance disk controllers and support up to 18 internal disk drives. The EJ0Z feature code is a card that plugs into a PCIe Gen3 slot and extends the internal disk controllers to support additional disks in a 5887.
You could do your own easy tier, by putting in SSDs and hard drives, but that isn't really easy tier.

Subject: RE: P7 740 E6C EXP24S mode 1, disk upgrade options
Sue, I ran across this information the other day:
The feature EJ0P storage backplane option has expanded function compared the feature EJ0N backplane. Feature EJ0P provides eighteen SSF-3 bays; a pair of integrated SAS controllers, each with 1.8 GB physical (effectively up to 7.2 GB with compression) write cache; a DVD bay; two SAS ports enabled for attaching an external EXP24S Disk Drawer (#5887); and Easy Tier functionality. The SAS ports are indicated by the EJ0Z feature and must be ordered with feature EJ0P. The SAS ports are physically mounted on the rear of the server and use up one PCIe x8 slot.
Does this mean that I can implement Easy Tier on my Power7 (8202) internal disk drives?
