Re: sql sum and case

The important thing to remember is that, in your example, each case
statement stands alone.
Unlike this example:
select
case when selectcolumn='A' then numbercolumn
when selectcolumn='B' then numbercolumn*2
when selectcolumn='C' then numbercolumn*1.5
else numbercolumn*3 end as sumcolunmn
from rob/mainsvw

You're doing four separate case statements:
select
case when ... then ... end
case when ... then ... end // This second statement is totally
independent and separate from the first case statement.
...
no different than a few non-nested If statements without any else clause.
