You sadistic dyslexic! It's not SQL1078, it's SQL0178. I used a utility
called SCNMSGF to find it. :-)

If you use
DSPMSGD RANGE(SQL0178) MSGF(QSQLMSG)
and look at the full text of the message you will see:

Message . . . . : Query expression text for view &1 in &2 too long.
Cause . . . . . : The query expression text for view &1 in &2 is longer
than
10000 bytes and does not fit in the SYSVIEWS catalog view. The
statement
text cannot be stored in the system catalog views. The VIEW_DEFINITION

column of the SYSVIEWS catalog view will contain the null value for this

view.
Recovery . . . : No recovery is necessary. If the complete text is
required in the system catalog views, recreate the view with the length
of
the query expression less than or equal to 10000 bytes.

Basically, if you rely upon SYSVIEWS to be able to retrieve the source,
you're screwed.

I do not know what bearing, if any, this message has upon this api
Generate Data Definition Language (QSQGNDDL) generates the SQL data
definition language statements required to recreate a database object.

I suspect little to none since the system catalog can easily be rebuilt by
a RCLSTG *DBXREF.

I have a view that is about 410 lines. This includes some comment and
formatting so i can probably get it down to 380 or so.
But i have a message
'SQL 1078 Query Expression text for Group1 in Mylib too long'

We are on V7.1 - do you know what the max is? is it lines or character
limit?
