Don't get me started about that four letter word thing just now. BUT the HMC will report them in. Had that at the customer I sit at just now when a disk in VIO failed and IBM showed up with a replacement just like the book says.

Not sure exactly what check box on the HMC enables that but certainly the setup on the Service Management menu needs to be completed. (FAR TOO MANY OF YOU don't do this by the way.) But certainly set up contact information, test the outbound connectivity, and flag the HMC as a call home server at a minimum.

I was dabbling around with Electronic Service Agent on AIX and VIOS. I
was following the instructions around

Managed to get through AIX. And send off a test. Unlike sending a test
from IBM i I'm not getting either a phone call or an email saying yep, we
got your test.

I could follow the instructions for VIOS but after entering all the
contact information and finishing up the configuration I got
0980-028 ESA installed succesfully but failed to activate. ESA is not
supported for use on VIOS on a non-IVM platform.

I suppose this is some way of saying "Dude, you have an HMC. Why in the
world would you want ESA to communicate from VIOS when you have an HMC to
send in service information?" Well, to the best of my knowledge the HMC
doesn't report in disk issues.
