I've seen this before. It's a performance issue with the programming and
database management. Their web site is programmed and managed by an offshore
group, but Cabela's is still an IBM i shop.

I'm not surprised about your contract going nowhere, Jon. I spent 10 weeks
in lovely Sidney, Nebraska 3 years ago. The mission was to re-architect how
their different pieces of vendor and custom software was to be managed by
the Aldon software.

The programmers (90% H1-B contractors) couldn't (and wouldn't) wrap their
heads around how it could work, and kept asking for revisions to the dozens
of Powerpoint charts I had created instead of actually getting to work on
the project. I finally told the manager (an American) that "If your guys
don't understand by now, they never will. I'm going home."

The bottom line, sadly, is that the outsourcing contractor holds Cabela's
captive to the way they want to work.

Site is working now Rob. - and as far as I know they are still on IBM i - we
had a tentative contact with them in the last year but nothing came of it.
