I *THINK* that, in order for the JDBC connection to use QSQSRVR, the code has to be running on the IBM i. If the code is running on another system, it will use QZDASOINIT.

Also, in order to use QSQSRVR, the java application (running on the i) has to be using the LPP version of JT400 with native opimizations and not JTOpen. See http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/api/content/ssw_ibm_i_71/rzahh/rzahhi5osopt.htm.
