Paul,

Again, you're talking about a session that is not your system console
session.
If you use a 'shared' not a 'Dedicated' session on your HMC, you can
connect it remotely over your VPN, drop remotely, reconnect, and get right
back in. I do it regularly. Dedicated system saves, PTF's, IPL's,
RCLSTG, etc.
