Because you (or a customer) have an application that has not been certified
for V6R1 yet.
Because you have a market opportunity twhere the customer is currently at
at V6R1 and you don't want to add the additional disruption of an upgrade
and the associated testing into the mix.

And before you say it, the challenge for vendors or MSPs is to accommodate
customers that run their businesses and make different technology choices
to you.

It's a current release so it should be supported even if the support has
some restrictions - like being entirely virtualized and no direct hardware
use.

Granted, I am running into some issues where I've a few lpars stuck at 7.1
now due to IBM supplied software needing updating or replacing before
going to 7.2. And the update requires redoing everything from scratch
with zero migration.
