I should probably state that what I am ultimately trying to do is send the
emails from the IBM i out into the world WITHOUT needing a Windows server
on our office LAN to get it done.

Hmm.. maybe I should get in contact with the Esend folks. :) I've gotand

I don't know for sure but last I heard the IBM SMTP serer can't do SSL
or TLS and authentication is "iffy".won't
And the settings are server wide for authentication which won't work if
you want to use different "from" addresses. Most cloud servers will
override the "from" address with the authentication user id and password
account data.
Or if you want to use multiple servers, a global server wide setting
work in that case.and
MAILTOOL Plus is fully configurable at the command level for each of the
settings, and uses configuration files that really helps as well.
I quit fighting with the IBM SMTP server things years ago, not only
because of these lack of features, but because it was so unpredictable
hard to debug.jlcrosby@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The other issue is we use Esend from Help/Systems for bursting/emailing
dozens and dozens and dozens of reports. Esend /requires/ the IBM SMTP
server for sending the emails.

I doubt you'll get gmail working with the IBM SMTP server unless
MAILTOOLhacked together some sort of fix. :)
If you need this resolved quickly, I can help. We've wrote our
andPlus software years ago to deal with this issue. It works with Gmailand
outlook 365 as well as other cloud mail servers that require SSL/TLS
evenauthentication.
We even have the CAs required for most available for download (

install them. (http://docs.bvstools.com/home/ssl-documentation)
Check out http://www.bvstools.com/mailtool.html for more info. We
superjust added ILE interfaces to it so sending emails from programs is
--simple.Gmail.
If anything, I'd be also happy to help you load the CAs required for
