The Arpeggio ARP-MAIL mail product has it's own TSL/SSL built in. No need for DCM and it supports authentication with gmail etc.

I should probably state that what I am ultimately trying to do is send the

Hmm.. maybe I should get in contact with the Esend folks. :) I've got
thousands using MAILTOOL and loving it. :)

I don't know for sure but last I heard the IBM SMTP serer can't do SSL
and
or TLS and authentication is "iffy".

And the settings are server wide for authentication which won't work if
you want to use different "from" addresses. Most cloud servers will
override the "from" address with the authentication user id and password
account data.

Or if you want to use multiple servers, a global server wide setting
won't
work in that case.

MAILTOOL Plus is fully configurable at the command level for each of the
settings, and uses configuration files that really helps as well.

I quit fighting with the IBM SMTP server things years ago, not only
because of these lack of features, but because it was so unpredictable
and
hard to debug.

The other issue is we use Esend from Help/Systems for bursting/emailing
dozens and dozens and dozens of reports. Esend /requires/ the IBM SMTP
server for sending the emails.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have a PMR open about
something
else
(emailing from the IBM i to gmail) and that's where the certificate
stuff
came in. I finally got IBM to call me on this and they walked me
through
some certificate stuff.

I assume by "emailing form the IBMi to gmail" you mean using Gmail as
your
mail router/server.

I doubt you'll get gmail working with the IBM SMTP server unless
they've
hacked together some sort of fix. :)

If you need this resolved quickly, I can help. We've wrote our
MAILTOOL
Plus software years ago to deal with this issue. It works with Gmail
and
outlook 365 as well as other cloud mail servers that require SSL/TLS
and
authentication.

We even have the CAs required for most available for download (
http://downloads.bvstools.com/Home/misc) and instructions on how to
install them. (http://docs.bvstools.com/home/ssl-documentation)

Check out http://www.bvstools.com/mailtool.html for more info. We
even
just added ILE interfaces to it so sending emails from programs is
super
simple.

If anything, I'd be also happy to help you load the CAs required for
Gmail.
I've helped hundreds of customers with this.
