I have run into similar problems.

I recall seeing a qsh scrip that would loop thru the "/tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach" directory and using the
QSH command 'getjobid -v' against the nested directory name would determine if that directory was "in use" by an active process.

If not in use then delete.

I recently discovered that STMP are being created in /tmp for each user profile.
/tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach/10002/attachInfo
/tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach/10002/attachNotificationSync

When going to delete a user profile, that user owns objects in /tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach
Did this change for V7R1, I never saw this at V6R1.
Some Java applications can create thousands of files within the /tmp/.com_ibm_tools_attach directory.
Even though these are "tmp" files, they are not cleaning up automatically.
Is it safe to disable the creation of these?
